Support Our Growth

Would you like to participate in the birth justice movement and impact our community in a powerful way? The Detroit Midwifery School is a 501(c)(3) organization (EIN 92-1260373) and is now graciously welcoming donations!

We are seeing growth and urgency in the local and national landscape surrounding the Black maternal mortality crisis, calls for reproductive justice and safer birthing options, legislative initiatives and capital campaigns geared toward growing and building community-led birth centers.  With this momentum comes the demand not just for greater access to midwifery care, but the need for educating more midwives, especially midwives of color.

The Detroit Midwifery School will emerge at the right place and at the right time to meet this need.

With a focus on diversifying the field of midwifery, the Detroit Midwifery School will meet the rising demands for safer birthing options and culturally congruent care within the state and throughout the country by educating a new generation of community midwives.

Our program is designed to be completed in 3-5 years and will offer hybrid didactic learning, with apprenticeships starting in the first year. Once in session, we plan to seek national accreditation and, upon completion of the program, our students will be eligible to sit for the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) Exam, or its equivalent, and become licensed professionals in their state. The time to educate more midwives is now!
